>>14714301the money i'm getting from my aunt is a flat amount agreed upon when she said she'd pay for me going back to school. i've let her know what sort of rate i need it at so she wasn't dropping a lump sum in the tens of thousands on my lap out of nowhere, but if i do something more expensive she's not giving me any more money
my parents aren't exactly in dire straits but they're definitely living paycheck to paycheck while they scrounge up to move. they're happy to give me food and a room, but they stopped paying for any of my shit when i dropped out which i think is entirely fair. if i were really about to get fucked in some major way they'd certainly stop me from living on the streets or failing to get to an interview because i didn't have gas money or something, but as far as they're concerned they gave me enough money to get my degree so i'm on my own financially
that's japan. christmas isn't huge there but it's definitely observed. there is a bit of lee way as far as things are concerned, so if it's a concern we'll just go at the start of january, but having christmas overlap with the trip would be comfy if it's manageable
JET stands for japanese exchange teaching. it's the program for dumb gaijin that want to get into japen for work. i'm pretty sure having a japanese degree and verifiable tutoring experience will make me a shoo-in, but there's still an interview i'll have to get to

yeah it's no exaggeration when people say US education is just blatant price gouging because degrees are automatically required for jobs now. it doesn't look so egregious with every single program since some have more required classes and there are plenty of options like doing a "multiple concentration" to take 12 jap classes and 8 korean classes or something, but it's still a total joke compared to any first world country
