armies usually drill stuff into you so hard you start doing them unconsciously
when I did CQC training we practiced disarming attackers with knives, we took turns charging each other with blunt knives and our instructors yelled at us to not hand over the knife to the other guy once we had disarmed them but to instead throw the knife at the ground behind us because apparently there has been instances of soldiers disarming attackers and then handing the knife back to them because that's what they had been doing a thousand times during drills and their brains just acted on auto-pilot in the heat of the moment, sounds ridiculous but if you're gigastressed you will do stupid stuff like that apparently

Sounds like proper gun safety. Better to treat it as if it's loaded so you don't fall into bad habits. Even if I load it, dump it and watch the slide lock back I'm still gonna check it and be safe about it.

the finger off the trigger thing is mainly to avoid accidents, like if you're just standing around with your rifle conviently pointed at your buddy's thigh with your finger on the trigger and for a moment you forget you have a rifle in your hands and you clench your fingers because they're a bit numb or whatever and suddenly you've given your buddy H&K flash photography, it happens quite often unfortunately

I had a weapon training as a teenand I've been shooting mainly with a rifle and like on the very first lesson they immediately told me that you should NEVER point a gun at another person because there still might be a bullet in the chamber
that's like the most basic gun safety 101 but it looks like am*ricans need weapons to be more idiot proof than that

I don't think you've ever held a real gun before
each weapon has a different trigger tolerance and you might let it fire by accident just by adjustinging your grip
bullets might also get stuck in the chamber and you might not know this and think everything's fine because the magazine is empty
when dealing with dangerous tools you should just prepare for the worst and use basic safety precautions in the same way as if dealing with toxic chemicals you'd wear gloves and other protective clothes

yeah i know how to count, if i load in like 2 bullets and only one comes out it's obvious that something is wrong and i should check it out, i shouldn't do that every fucking time i shoot or every fucking time i'm done shooting because guns are not some random chaotic black boxes and it's not like you need a degree in engineering in order to understand how a pistol works, gun safety literally implies that all gun users are absolute braindead baboons that would probably just eat the barrel and suffocate the second you give them these magical contraptions that can spawn bullet when they're completely empty, when i'm dealing with chemicals or for example some machining bench i know for a fact what i should look out for, i understand that i shouldn't put my fingers on a band saw when it's working just like i shouldn't put my other hand in front of the barrel when i'm actively using a weapon but when i'm done using it i can do whatever the fuck i want with it because guns don't fucking shoot on their own, i can put it up into my fucking ass and pull the trigger 800 times and literally nothing would happen, the satan won't spawn a bullet inside the chamber just to ridicule me and make me shoot my fucking ass, that just won't happen if the ammunition is absent from a weapon
