Mostly agree, but during times like this week all I see retail traders talking about is shorting. Suddenly they have to wake up every day and buy puts no matter what the headlines are. Israel fud? Short SPY. Good TSM earnings? NVDA puts. CPI 0.1% higher than expected? SQQQ calls. Maybe they aren't the majority of liquidity but they play right into Big Money's fud and it all snowballs.

Let's be real, the market was bound for a correction. The way it moved since November is anything but healthy. A -15% from the NASDAQ100 this year, and then a regular climb up back wouldn't surprise me. We would be halfway done in the dump phase.

because of what historically happens whenever the fed has cut rates before properly quelling inflation? That they definitely don't want a repeat? The only way we get rate cuts is if they move the inflation target to 3% or 4%

Longest streak of winning option plays in a row. Im out of daytrades so might just pull all of this out when the funds settle. Actually not even a couple percent difference, more like 1% since the 30 day SEC yield on HYSA is 6.83%. Also, BOXX doesn't subject you to taxable distributions like HYSA. The maturity on the debt means the underlying holdings are subject to move up and down in price so even if HYSA pays the distribution you could still lose money if the ETF itself goes down. BOXX doesn't have this problem. It goes up at a 5.5% annualized rate no matter what because it mimics extremely short term treasury bills. Simply, I've been holding BOXX since the beginning of April. In that time the total return has appreciated by 0.25%. Not much but a lot better than HYSA suffering a total return loss of -2.79% in the same time frame. HYSA is just not suitable in an environment where the fear is increasing interest rates, ironically the exact time I would want to use it

For some reason I don't get the interest in Robinhood so I use BOXX. My other broker Lightspeed where I keep the bulk of my funds doesn't pay interest on uninvested cash so I use BOXX there too. If you get 5% from your broker and you're just parking money for a few days or weeks it's probably not worth the trouble to mess with BOXX

They got me good last night. I had some dip buys for SVIX that would have been filled but they turned off 24 hour trading. I managed to get in with pic related but I had another 65k buy at 32 that would have filled when VIX futures spiked which would have been the bottom of the SVIX dip. I would have banked 5k by this morning just on that but I never got filled so had to console myself with the measly 1k I made off the fills I actually got. Fortunately I have a futures account with a different broker and shorted VIX directly in there. Robinhood really is a shady operation

I'm not saying it's on a wild run now. SOXL was on a wild run in January which is what I was referring to. If one were using the 200 day moving average strategy you'd have bought SOXL on November 2nd 2023. By January it had already doubled in price with very few pullbacks. Buying then would have been FOMO chasing an ETF on a wild run. Buying now would also be FOMO since you have no good reason to believe a rebound is imminent. Don't buy dips. Buy on strength after a dip. The 200 day moving average strategy enforces that discipline since by necessity you will never buy the bottom and you will always be buying a rebound. It forces you to buy when the ETF is moving up but not after it has already ran up triple digit percentages. Fear of loss is what causes people to hold through a big downturn and then finally capitulate selling the bottom. It's very common

I've done some back tests on GLD, PSLV, etc. and according to my shit they do better when volatility is elevated and do worse than equities when volatility is low. Pic related is the VIX6M/VIX ratio. When it's below 1.25, precious metals perform better so if I were holding PSLV I'd remain in it for now. When we get back above then sell the metal and buy stocks

I'll occasionally come across a wsb post when I browse reddit (I don't have an account but I lurk on the dance dance revolution board occasionally) and it always seems like those gain posts are some guy with only one or two posts in their accounts and they are trading like 500 lots of OTM SPY options that just so happen to close ITM. I think their goal is to bait people into trading that way thinking they will hit it big like that too, but it doesn't work that way for obvious reasons.
