>>22564527I think of Putin as the very first of the "New Nationalists."
As Putin ascended to the office of Prime Minister and then of President of the Russian Federation in 1999 and 2000, respectively, the entire modern, Western World was in the throes of globalization, proclaiming the end of the nation-state and the rise of a new, global order in the world.
Putin bucked this trend and focused on putting Russia back together after the disastrous fall of the Soviet Union that left Russians in grinding poverty and misery. Putin was an unabashed nationalist in a globalist world.
Nowadays, there are nationalist heads of government everywhere: Xi, Modi, Bolsonaro (out for now), Trump, Erdogan, and tons of others. But it was Putin who came first. He is the leader of the pack, you might say.
This gives Putin a lot of cred and respect among the world's nationalists.
Putin, just by ignoring the globalist trend of the 2000s and focusing on helping his Motherland, paved the way for the end of globalization and the revival of nationalist sentiment in the world.
Hats off to him!
