>>23797893>on that note, aren't there these cheap and small diesel heaters which were trending for a bit? In the right circumstances they outperformed traditional systems in terms of running costs and regulators came to save the day by restricting them. funny how this works.yeees
gas/diesel generators/heaters/systems are objectively the best in many ways, especially at small scales like use by a single person (as oppose to
there's a reason militaries (to my knowledge) still almost entirely rely on fuel/gas for important stuff, with a few exceptions like nuclear reactors on huge naval vessels
simple, adaptable, robust, easy to transport/maintain (relatively), often easy to repair with improvised stuff
solar arrays have advantages also, but if a solar panel fails/breaks you're generally fucked (unless you for some reason have access to very bulky specialized equipment & materials)
ted kaczynski talked a bit about this, he had a name for the concept but i forget what it was..
another reason is the superior energy density of fuel compared to all but the most expensive/impractical batteries, allowing fuel to be less bulky while also being a simple combustible liquid
if you're trying to stockpile for emergencies, it's important to note that gasoline (idk about diesel) does go bad somehow after several years, i think
the i think the US military has "aviation fuel" or "JP8" fuel or something, which is distinct from gasoline & diesel but similar
it's good to have a small gas/diesel generator lying around for emergencies, even if you don't stockpile fuel, since hopefully you can have time/opportunity to acquire some if anything happens
