>"Primate researcher and anthropologist Stephen Baker discovered a new gorilla species this Friday while trekking through the jungles of central Africa. Baker and his team found a group of giant apes with characteristics of both gorillas and chimpanzees shortly after traveling north from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Baker further described the apes as having human-like characteristics, including hair follicles on the scalp (previously un-seen), and white eyes - which are normally dark black in gorillas. According to local villagers, the apes are ferocious, and even capable of killing lions. Baker and his team expect to have further data and news to report in the coming weeks. The discovery of these apes "reveals just how much we still have to learn about our closest living relatives," Baker said.
