Let's have an armchair (casual) philosophy thread.
The dynamic is simple. You offer a bit of your life "philosophy", and compare it against other people's ideas. There is no set theme, but there should at least be a good amount of logical reasoning being used. Please be willing to approach others' ideas and refute them, or fill in what you might think might be missing.
Requirements: having common sense, and being able to use it to reason. Having passed at least one introductory course to philosophy in high school/college is not necessary, but wouldn't hurt at all.
Let me start off:
I believe that every person has a natural duty to society, as well as nature as a whole, due to consuming a certain amount of resources. All people have, without any exceptions, a duty to harm the environment as little as possible (in other words, not polluting, not cutting an excessive amount of trees), as well as to others (which means getting a job in order not to be a useless leech, as well as not harming others). There is no reward (and need not be any kind of reward) for this behaviour except for seeing one's world be a good place for others to live in. This duty exists independently of any kind of divine agents or arbitrarily set codes of morality.
At the same time, one of the most important reasons why people live is for pleasure, but this pleasure must not go against one's duty towards society. Seeking pure pleasure (hedonism) will only lead to ephemeral pleasure for one's self, as well as ignoring the needs of others.
