The labor market would collapse with A.I. because people couldn't compete with the machines. So UBI-ists propose we tax the corporate class and redistribute so we can spend money on the stuff the corporate class produces. What that functionally does is concentrate power even more and makes the market a game where the few corporations left try to use the government and UBI recipients to extract wealth from each other.
It's better that we dismantle the top-down hierarchical system before we get to that stage. That means giving workers democratic power over the work place. Worker driven enterprises will just choose to work less hours with new a.i. innovation without cutting their salaries. This is the best means of transition. A.I. is going to destroy the labor market. What we must ask is whether new technology and increased productivity that comes with it should benefit the few or the many.
