OSAS. You know of this well, that it means "Once saved, always saved"...people argue and bicker that it isn't the truth, and quote many Bible verses that somewhere, works and diligence are what keeps someone saved. However, doesn't that negate when all those verses state that whoever believes that Jesus is the son of God will have eternal life? What is the answer? Works are described like filthy rags, yet an eternal gift of life seems beyond too good to be true without diligence on our own part.

What is the truth?

If you know Calvinism, it’s the idea that God predestined people from before the foundation of the earth and at some point those people’s life, they will repent and put their trust in Christ. Since they were predestined to be saved, along with limited atonement canceling out all their sin, these people cannot go to hell.

I'm no theologian and I recently converted, so I'm studying this matter quite a bit.
Although I don't have a fixed stance yet, my understanding so far is that yes, once you're saved you are saved forever. That said, salvation requires faith in Jesus Christ, so what happens if you lose said faith?
We know that angels were sent to hell, and they cannot achieve salvation, even though they worshiped God before.
God also usually only perform miracles when asked for them. The thief on the cross asked Jesus to be saved, and everyone else who Jesus healed also asked for those miracles.
So, in my view, to believe in Jesus and ask for salvation of your soul is all you need to be saved, BUT that isn't a one time deal. Remember: God is eternal, he sees the future, past and present and has the eternity to spend thinking about each moment of these. Thus, to be saved, I need to keep my faith throughout my life - or at least, from that moment until my death.
If I ask for salvation today, but become an atheist tomorrow, in the end, did I truly believe in God? Well, that will be for Him to judge.
As for deeds, they won't save you, but if you truly believe in Jesus, you also should believe in his teachings. He is the Truth, and as Plato would say: "Truth known is truth obeyed".
Thus, following in his teachings is not a requirement of salvation, but a consequence of belief. This doesn't mean you aren't going to fail along the way, you are, a lot, but that's fine, because you will always repent and go back to Him.

Arminian theology teaches that people can willingly enter into the covenant on faith and leave it on disbelief when ever they want to.

Molinists are in the middle on those issues.

Some denominations like to pick the good parts of Calvinism and reject the bad parts replacing it with Arminianism and molinism

As long as you believe it shouldn’t really matter but take some time to study theology and compare which one best conforms to scripture

He is talking about His sheep, aka the people who believe in Him. And while God will always go after the stray sheep, what happens if the stray sheep refuses to return home?
God gave us free will, and said free will is the option to rebel against Him. That isn't advisable, but it's there since Adam. If you cannot rebel against God, your free will is being restricted. And just like no man can force you to repent and accept Jesus, only you can, no man can force you out of His path, only you can.
This isn't the same as claiming you are greater than God, that's absurd, rather I'm saying that the eternal life, the salvation, isn't given on a single point in time, it's rather the point of your entire life.

Incorrect, stupid, and heretical. You'll know when you're saved when you die and you end up in heaven. Nobody on earth can tell you if you're saved, and someone who is saved won't be committing grave sins afterwards, if he does he was not saved.

Actions speak louder than words. How do you know he believed it? Nobody but God knows, you don't. If he then went and gravely sinned, then it becomes obvious even to people, not just God, that he was not saved.

This is why I say OSAS is dumb, because YOU CANNOT KNOW. It is completely pointless to talk about someone being saved or not because nobody but God knows, you can talk about how to be saved, but you talking about someone being saved or not is entirely pointless.

God says no MAN may pluck him, this means that no matter what someone does to you, he won't be able to unsave you. Demon-possessed bastard kidnaps you and feeds you blended babies? In his second chapter that if someone keeps the law but stumbles at one point, he is guilty of them all, so the whole idea of some sins separating one from the father vs some sins being permissible contradicts that idea.

I was driving today when I thought "once saved always saved" is such a silly statement. Nobody truly can just say they believe in Jesus and then go off to do whatever they wish. It's not a license to sin, and yet so many people treat it that way, yet this makes OTHERS think that because THOSE people exist, that we now need "works" which is then incorrect because it is the grace of Jesus that saves us and not works, but a true believer will be changed so that when it comes to provide evidence for him being saved, he will not do things that go against God so gravely and in such a profane way "aka mass murdering pedo"

After sexual sins that I do, I literally go take a shower and pray and ask God for forgiveness and strength and for the holy spirit to dwell within me. Because I don't deny OSAS (though I'm far from certain of it), I only deny the seemingly common notion of OSAS being passed around. Once God saves you, you are saved, what I deny is that any man can know if God has or intends to do so, which is why I say OSAS as this notion being spread that once you are saved you can rest easy is retarded, because while that may be true it is utterly impossible for you or anyone else to know when or if that is the case. It is doubly pointless because it is often use to comfort oneself that their sins won't send them to hell, but if you sinned so much that you risk hell, then were you actually ever saved? You don't know, your priest/pastor/pope/whatever doesn't know, and God isn't going to tell you while you're still on this earth.

So my argument is that this interpretation of OSAS that is gaining popularity is pointless, and sometimes straight up dangerous as some people may think this means they are free to sin without consequence.

Faith has to have works for any of the rest of the doctrine to make any sense whatsoever.

What I took away from this thread:

"Once saved always saved". This is a line I have battled with for weeks. After many hours of searching, I have come to the conclusion that this line is corrupted. Let's take an example into theory.
Let's say that a man announces out loud that he accepts Jesus Christ as their savior. He announces that he acknowledges Jesus died for the world and that the only way to make it to everlasting life is through Jesus. However, after that the man announces that, he then goes on a massive killing spree as a serial killer, never to be discovered by authorities and does this until he dies of old age, does this not make the "Once saved always saved" statement incorrect and even silly looking? Simply put, that man was never saved, or at least it can be argued. OSAS is gaining popularity around mega churches, and can be considered dangerous as some people may interpret this as a means to sin freely without consequences. It can be argued that pastors aren't telling people the entire truth. OSAS is what so many pastors work with today, but they aren't explaining it that ONLY a true believer is one who is actually saved. Personally speaking, after I became saved, I have felt great guilt when willfully sinning. Some may theorize if I feel guilty because 1) I am personally pondering if my works will damn me; or 2) If I am becoming paranoid and think that because I did bad because now I "think" that Jesus will kick me out of heaven because I am wondering if I was ever saved, but honestly, I feel guilty because I remember all the things God did in order to make a path for those of us who sin. such a God who sends his son down to the cross to die for my sins makes me feel like garbage when I commit a sin. Another reason that I feel horrible after sinning is that it could be the Holy Spirit dwelling within me and convicting me.

It can be argued that here are many Christians who stumble, but those who "feel" the stumble and acknowledge it will feel the urge to repent, because the holy spirit works within us to convict us of our wrongdoings. There is nothing wrong with repentance, as the Bible says to do so. I believe that the urge to do so after we have sinned is a byproduct of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, telling us what is right and wrong.

That’s the wrong outlook. God knows sin is harmful to us. His laws are not to keep us from having a good time, they are meant to keep us safe. The wages of sin is death.

God wants our mentality to change when we accept His grace. He wants us to realize that He is lovingly steering us away from sin because He has better things planned for us. But there is NO condemnation to those who are saved in Christ. Once you have accepted that grace, there is nothing that can pluck you from His hand.

But there is a distinction between salvation and sanctification.
Salvation happens when a person receives the one-time sacrifice that Jesus made for ALL sin on the cross.
Sanctification is a continual process of refinement; it is God working in our lives daily to make us more like Him. But sanctification is not what saves you, it’s believing and trusting in Jesus alone. Not yourself.

Maybe he's speaking rhetorically about Christians who say non-Christians don't have souls. The pharisees believed in a kind of Hades. Maybe Jesus was simply saying "No, you," and it was meant as a comfort and hope for the unrighteous abandoned by the church, not a condemnation. My issue is that I believe sodomites can’t be saved because they don’t want to be saved. They don’t want to be saved because they were given over to a reprobate mind. They were given over because they knew God, but glorified him not as god, held the truth in unrighteousness and all that stuff.

Thus I conclude that the sodomites which are seemingly repentant and get married and have kids or not are doing so to fool the world so that the world will accept them. Who knows what they do in secret though except God?

They could be fornicating behind their wife’s back or molesting the kids at the wrestling club.

If I am interpreting Romans 1 correctly, then these sodomites have ill intentions in everything that they do and it’s more likely that they are deceiving you than anything else.

In the end, I can either believe the sodomites that say they believe God or I can believe God himself. I choose to believe God. That being said, I could be interpreting scripture incorrectly; but, I trust that the Holy Spirit will lead me into all truth in the end.

What Paul used was translated into the King James, so in a sense he did use the King James.

From my knowledge, the KJV (and the English bibles that preceded it) were the only ones that used the PRESERVED Hebrew Old Testament

To be honest, I’ve only just stumbled across Calvinism, but I’m interested. I can honestly say that the lifestyle I was living was totally engulfed in sin for a very long time. There are literally scores of verses proving we can never lose are salvation. Such as when it says we have “eternal life”, it’s not eternal if it doesn’t last forever.

In Ephesians 1 it says “in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, (13-14)” it says that we are sealed with the Holy Ghost until the day of redemption(the rapture), so if you were able to lose having the Holy Ghost before the rapture then the verse would be a lie.

In John 5:24 where Jesus says “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” He says we hath(has) everlasting life, NOT “will get” But “has”, also again he says it is everlasting. He also says “shall not come into condemnation” so if you ever do come into condemnation(being cast into hell) then Jesus would have lied since he said “shall not” not “might not”. And finally, he says “but is passed from death unto life”, he says “is passed” not “will be passed”, so we already have been given everlasting life, it’s not something we get when we physically die, but something you get the second you believe on Christ.

Everyone "ignores his words" to some degree because everyone still sins. This entire line of argument only works if you start cherrypicking commandments. You have a guarantee because Jesus promised eternal life to whoever believed in him.

John 11:25-26
