So in all of Rebuild, the Rei we see doesn't have the same complexity and strong traits as the original, so there's nothing to offset the fact that she was saved (or attempted) saved.
Then there's the situation that Rei is still in need of being saved, from either herself or in a crystal prison that is the core.... girls trapped in crystals. It annoys me, but it's the truth.
The result is that in Rebuild for Rei, there are more scenes in which she needs saving, and less scenes where she's contributing to saving someone else.
Less scenes of strength, and not to mention freedom. Rei's inner world which was so important in the original has been obliterated too.
Everything in Rebuild about Rei confers weakness and I hate it and take offense from it.
