Hence why Madoka says that she'd follow the rules instead of breaking them for selfish desire. IMO Madoka's wish is just as selfish because its also based on desire, but whatever,
I don't particularly like that theme, but I do think Rebellion forced the viewer to questions Madoka's "selflessness". The only thing wrong at the end was Homu's outcome, but even then, it's a case of Homura's mental state racked by guilt and self-loathing that is turning a paradise into a living hell.
