In NOT the desert just starts immediately next to vegetation without anything actually causing the desert to form like a mountain range that makes it difficult for precipitation to pass over it. Deserts don't just form in the middle of nowhere for no reason. I know what you're thinking: "magic did it". But the only inexplicable thing about Nevada is why anyone would want to visit a giant desert where water is 5 bucks a bottle.
