>where did you learn? i'd follow nagatoro's creator for the extra material in his twitter but it's all in a language that i don't know. Start by learning hiragana and katakana, there are lots of ways you can learn it. You kinda have to pick something that works the best for you.
Then I would just start learning grammar first, because it will give you a decent idea of the sentences, just learning kanjis isn't going to work they have different meaning depending on the context and what not, it's tricky. I could probably share you some books but I'm afraid the mods will get angry desu.
As for twitter, it does have a build in [translate this tweet] function that you can use to get sort of a understanding of what is being said. This become fun when you want to communicate.
