>>3100142Putting aside the taboo, incest can be great for romantic stories seeing how the characters have grown up and known with each other throughout their lives along with the 'forbidden love' aspect of it. One of my favorite things to read is the story of Oral Hygiene Brother, a romance that actually makes me emotional and cry.
>>3101120I wouldn't be so sure, a 30 year old woman has an 28-29% chance of embryo chromosomal abnormalities(
https://www.advancedfertility.com/age-eggs-chromosomes.htm) compared to a study showing 42% of children being born from first-degree relatives having birth defects(
https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/animals-and-us/201210/the-problem-incest). Though comparing these two might be comparing apples and oranges but maybe a decent indicator.
That being said, while inbreeding between two people sharing the same recessive alleles and passing the two recessive alleles to their offspring, producing a disorder, has a high chance, there is an equal chance of completely removing the harmful allele in the offspring. I think this is why small populations that promote incest and cull the deformed offspring can end up healthier while larger populations that have greater chance of deformed offspring living can end up worse. It may also explain the phenomenon I hear people mention that sometimes incest babies can become overall better than their parents, though I would need to look more into that.
