If Asuka is already Sohryu, then how could Anno have made her colder than to have all of unknowing humanity dissapear and her friends and fellow rival pilots vanish, with Shinji being the main perpetrator?
2.0 Asuka is more or less innocent and immature in 2.0, so that she could transition into grizzled, rage-filled beasto who's out for Angel blood. It's a more natural progression, considering in NGE Third Impact was a one time event that ended (perceivingly) as quick as it started. 2.5 Impact and the Nemesis Angels spanned 14 years before baka Shinji decided to wake up.
