Anything human-kun do to Earth-chan they do it in fact to themselves. If human-kun keep being stupid, human-kun will only commit suicide, Earth-chan's hair may change color a wee bit, and she would just have a different kind of fleas in her hair.
When Earth-chan tell us to "protect" and "recycle", she's not asking us to protect her. She's asking us to protect ourselves. Because we are her children and she don't want us to die off too soon.
