But when I was about 18 or so, that's when a big event happened. I decided to replay OoT again. This time I was older and a bit more mature. When I first laid eyes on her in-game, I was captivated. It must have only been 15 or so seconds, but I felt like I was staring at her for an eternity. She really did take my breath away. I found her (and still find her) so mesmerizing. At the time, I just chalked this up to nostalgia for this game and I've always liked this character anyway. But this wasn't like other times. I didn't just stop thinking about her after playing. She kept pervading my thoughts. Almost like an intrusive thought. She kept making my heart race, but I kept denying that it was anything.

You see, I knew waifuism was a thing even back when /a/ was doing waifu threads before Waifu Wednesday. I always feel ashamed to say this, but I thought those people were weird and degenerate for loving a fictional girl. I thought it was a coping mechanism for not being able to find a girlfriend and that they didn't really love the girl anyway. Because I had this mindset, I kept pushing back my Sheik into the back of my mind. I didn't want to think about her. I didn't want to acknowledge what was going on in my mind. You see, the seed that had been planted into my mind had been well-taken care of over the years. I was always exposed to Sheik and I never had any negative thoughts about her. She was never forgotten and she got thought of more often than most girls. So this caused that seed in the deep recesses of my brain to start sprouting, slowly, but surely. It just needed some more time and one last push to blossom into a beautiful love flower.

She decided to transform back into Zelda a bit too early. She transformed into Zelda before Link even stepped foot into Ganondorf's castle. That's a good explanation for Sheik in the OoT game, but she appears elsewhere too. She appears in mostly the same way in he manga adaptation, except they change a couple things. For example, instead of living in hiding, Sheik decides to go the route of getting Ganondorf to trust her instead. Hiding in plain sight essentially. So she became one of his minions and he trusted her like no other. Then she betrayed him and tricked him. But other than that, she has mostly the same representation.

Sheik's first appearance in another game was in Super Smash Bros. Melee (SSBM). They used a gimic of Zelda being able to transform into Sheik and vice versa. They created a pretty convincing moveset for her in this game. Like, this FEELS like how Sheik would fight. She is fast, agile and while her attacks aren't that strong, they can combo pretty fast and hard. Sheik was actually considered #1 in the SSBM Tier list for the first seven. Now she is generally agreed on to be #4. But still, that is a FANTASTIC feat. While Zelda is one of the worst characters in the game, so it helped Sheik shine. Plus, they also made her look pretty much like she did in OoT, but with better graphics and some pallet swap designs.

Sheik was SUPPOSED to appear in Twilight Princess (TP), but they decided not to.

No. She has no idea what our modern trends are or what being hip even is. But that doesn't matter to me. Sheik is the coolest girl in the world and I don't need her to be in with the times. She is perfect the way she is.

She is pretty damn popular, yes. Popular enough to still keep getting art and to keep appearing in more games. I just wish people could understand her more and stop insulting her so much. She is a good girl and doesn't deserve all the shit she gets.

What initially made her popular was firstly, she was in OoT. That by itself would have been enough. But, outside of Link, she gets more cutscene time out of anyone else. She tricked a bunch of people into thinking that she had nothing to do with Zelda. Some people even thought she was a man, but felt a bit turned on by her. (This is why that stupid fucking group of people who think she is a man still exist.) Then the twist reveal at the end of OoT surprised many people. So that's how she became popular. Popular enough to warrant a spot in Melee.
Then in Melee, she was initially thought to be the best character in the game for seven straight tier lists. But even though now she is thought of as #4, she is still widely played by many people. They love her playstyle. Smash 4 is the same kind of deal with how good she is, especially before the DLC characters came out. These are the things that I believe made her popular. It's a blessing and a curse.

A fighter initially, but when she is with me, I'm sure she will calm down and become a lover. There aren't evil triforce holders to fight anymore. She would just have the love I give her and I think that can calm her heart.
