Another thing about the end is that Fushimi wrote Volume 1 and 12 to be really similar which makes it more clear that it's not just an end but also a beginning but the anime doesn't convey any of that. That's the problem with the anime, it ignored a ton of hints and made the ending more ambigous because stupid jap censorship laws. And in case you are still insecure the author confirmed it to be "a complete Kirino ending".
I really recommend the LN's, they are actually pretty good and absolutely vital to understanding the series.
