While taking down the Alayashiki facilities Mai was easily one of the more all-rounded combatants. After all not only is she a very skilled fighter in single combat, her ki barrier is also effective in protecting her teammates and she is even able to heal their wounds (although not as fast and effectively as another one of her friends).
That said, Mai would probably need to remain at the rearguard and use her ki shield to protect her friends from stray bullets while the more overpowered waifus like Saber take away the bigger chunk of the enemy forces. Then Mai and her friends can deal with the rest so the vanguard team can conserve energy. I think she would also do well as second in command. Maybe not making the most important decisions though, especially since she tends to rely on feelings. But she has some experience leading a large number of ability users on volume 3, both while fighting a 30 meter dragon and climbing that large tower to defeat a queen ant who was creating lv.3 phantoms in large numbers.
