Huh, I didn't really consider the villain or conflict at all. I think of that more as the vehicle of how they're going to deliver the characters to us. However a safe bet would be the mage association and that could be fairly smoothly incorporated into all three routes. Whichever they will! end up going with won't be a deal breaker for me.
As for the power creep, from recent track record that's indeed probably already in place. But that's not to say that it's unavoidable. In accordance with Rin's own words using the UBW is illegal so they could easily limit him like that. Just do me a favor and don't tap into the unfathomable depths of lore please.
I think overall, and I realize that this is a pipe dream, I would like to see a Fate without the servants being the dominating factor again. It wasn't always like this.
