>>2086814Agreed. Would love to see this colored in by someone with the know-how to do it right and not make a botch job of it.
Rei was the girl that got me turned on to the silent/quiet ones. Watching her character development was quite interesting. Sadly, back in the 90's (I had the entire series on VHS. Talk about a wallet-drain. $30 for a two-episode VHS. And people gripe about DVD's draining their wallets...*Chuckle*) it didn't seem very vogue to be a fan of Ayanami. "She's a doll!", "She acts like a puppet on a string!" and other criticisms were often thrown around between my friends that watched. But if you look past the poker face, you can see a lot going on behind those eyes, especially during battle moments.
Incidentally, it was around that time that my tastes in women IRL also started changing, from the Artsy Rin (Katawa Shoujo) sorts and the mischievous rogue Ryoko (Of Tenchi Muyo) sorts, to the quiet, observant, bookworm-ish sorts. I am now happily engaged to a redheaded bookworm (Talk about your twist of fate, huh?). She's cute, observant, intelligent, and has just a touch of Yandere to her. (Probably 98% Dere, 2% Yan). She acts more like Nagato Yuki than Ayanami Rei, but considering that I never would have noticed her this far down the line, had I not had that shift in tastes back in the 90's...one could say I owe thanks to the blue-haired angel herself for today.
