Objectively the bass is different, but fundamentally its the same. That said, a lot of the skills are transferable between the two instruments. You'll have to get used to being the support of the song instead of the limelight. The way you play (with your fingers) could also take some getting used to. I've played Samidare 20 Love and Fuwa Fuwa Time on the bass and I have to admit, K-on songs are some of the most fun songs I've ever played. I would definitely recommend the bass to a guitar player who wants to learn a new instrument AND sharpen his/her guitar skills.
