Stability and open source security auditing is critical for anything intended to be accessible from the internet but I turn my desktop off at the end of the day anyway and have a NAS RAID + offsite backup for anything worth keeping. The only time I'm passionate about learning and fixing things on my own is when the modafinil kicks in. Most of the time, I'd rather have a desktop that "just werks".
