Kinoko's writing is very hit or miss for me in general. I found Archer's death scene in HF really badly done. Rin was portrayed there as illogical and over-optimistic, which took me right out of the scene. It's not even mentioned afterwards so it smells of lazy writing to get Archer out of the picture on Rin's expense, and for Shirou to get his hero moments later on.
I know it's in her character to be a little careless at times, but you can't use that as a catch-all excuse for scenes like this. I thought she'd be the last person in that scene to blunder like that.
