>>2193852I appreciate her as a part of the plot and part of making important points about the sort of people our society produces, be it perfectionism, sucess-crazyness, superficiality in girls or the classic post-divorce complex. That's the marker of a great work, that you can appreciate all characters brain-wise.
But emotionally, she ruined it right in episode 9. The way she treats Rei reminds me too much of the girls who bullied me. Her being this socially disconected/inexperienced, smart/bookish type of girl wa really part of what attracted me to Rei initially, so yeah.
That doesn't mean that I don't feel sorry for her at all or think she deserves the crap that happened to her, but Misato, Shinji and Rei had horrible lives, too, an yet they don't usually take it out on everyone around them.
Asuka just decides that ppl apparently did horrible things/offences to her just by *existing* and then wants sympathy for it. She's a bully.
It's hard for me to be fair to bulies, even if as an adult, I can now see that it isn't a black/white justice vs evil thing/that such people have their stories, too.
In fact, EVa made me realize that. It made me less scared of these alpha girls. It made me see that they're humans who're subject to social pressure, too.
