I think in the second version the nature looks quite vibrant, but I wonder if this is what tkmiz was going for in the black and white, there's a possibility that they actually imagined the scene as dull and gray (to fit the mood with Shimeji), now there is a contrast between the green nature, blue sky and depressed looking Shimeji. I might do a third version some time in the future with a gray sky and very washed out trees, maybe yellow grass to see how it compares, or I might get lazy and not do it.
