>>2176679I'm not implying it, I'm outright saying they did. The "hipsterism" is just their defense mechanism that never really worked.
Some will like it, some won't, this would be the truth no matter how good/different the new was. That's the hipster-thing for you.
Also, for a), I don't agree because the original is far more horrible, even 3.0 is comparatively sterile. 3.0 is more grandiose in scale.
>Thinking that he even thinks in terms of "favorite girls" is ridiculous.Aye. But the world is more ridiculous than you think. I don't see anything to explain 3.0 and Rei otherwise, it's the only explanation where every piece fits.
And more on b), Rei Q and Rei IS portrayed as inferior in these new series. Even if only slightly in the beginning, to how 3.0 ended. It's the small things like Rei being able to penetrate an AT-field in NGE, but not in 2.0 for instance.
The new portrayal of Rei has no thoughts of note, no insights, and absolutely no agency to speak of. She's a helpless damsel in distress and that is the new image of Rei they are pushing. Rei Q especially, is nearly mindless and is as such inferior to even the worst example in the series.
You could argue the character is a foil or there to provide contrast, but you know what the end and result of that is? A non-portrayal of Rei Ayanami, no progress from the character and nothing on the character. No what remains is a meaningless version of Rei. If Rei Q had the will to betray someone, on her own, that would actually be better.
>>2176687>If they're so much better, they can speak for themselves. They can't. Anno does the speaking for them. They can't be made better or show themselves to be better unless Anno changes the entire world and their characters - which is what Rebuild is.
