Now that itself is alright, lots of good painters have tried to emulate styles from centuries before their birth. But the problem with manga/dream/anything else "-core" drawings is that they barely try for any authenticity. It's like someone looked at two anime artworks from that era and then tried to draw like it. They are pining for an older, supposedly better era but only care for the aesthetic and not the spirit. The 2000s had far less irony than the amount zoomers put in their drawings. MSPaint was not a tool used by professional artists then. And real 2000s slang is nowhere to be found, it's all modern stuff. So in the end, it's superficial and the nostalgia is unearned.
