And yeah, you can't use headphones without some kind of amp. Though, in response to the comment about keeping quiet by muting an acoustic, that won't work very well, as was mentioned. You'd probably be better off playing an electric without an amp (it's really quiet and works surprisingly well for practising!) and just practising until you can save up for a proper amp, even if it's just a cheap one.
