Maybe she did recognize Shinji, maybe Ritsuko told her to go and say "hello Shinji". What did she think when she grabbed the glasses? Was it abstract feelings? Were it memories? Was it something entirely different like jealocy towards Rei2 whose glasses it were?
In the end she did chose Shinji over Gendo and care about him.
She did change inside her character. like one person would change with time or with loss of memory or with shocking experience.
But these changes of one being/entity.
