You yourself has shown blatant dislike for the original Rei on more than one occasion, particularly in the past. It is safe to say that you arent a fan.

It is because as of now the last EVA entry that worked "normally" in Rei's favor as a character, came out in 2009, which is 8 years ago.
Every Rei fan knows that it is pointless to follow EVA or have any expectations whatsoever, because Anno is a Rei-hater. The new fans also know this, and know that the best they will get is Rei being present, the insulted and thrown aside. Only made worse by the fact that Asuka and Kaworu fans are pandered to, as salt in the wound.
So popular and liked by the public, but reviled by the loyal followers of Anno.
