A bad continuation is not great for a finished story
A bad retconning is a massive fuck up for the story.
As for this addition, it's not an addition, it's a replacement. Pokapoka pushed the idea and image of old Rei out of people's heads.
Rei used to be asociated with philosophycal monologues, now she's associated with cooking weir stuff out of pills.
It's not a bad thing in itself, moreover it's qute a funny joke, but it took the place of something much greater, something that was better, and it's a turn to the worse.
An anologue would be as if lucas made Obi-Wan a drooling retarded homosexual comical character in new Star Wars. Oh it's a funny character, but it's a retconning to old good Obi-Wan.
