Of course, the first to be jealous/alarmed that Shinji is spending more time with a girl is Asuka; But her shyness and pride about her attraction toward Shinji causes her to inform those of NERV and Shinji himself that Mana is a threat because she's distracting Shinji from his job (NERV) and that Mana could also be a "spy" for other organizations against NERV, rather than tell him that she is attracted toward him and it's breaking her pretty little heart.
Now, I have not played Girlfriend of Steel nor read it. I have read the Shinji Ikari Raising Project, an Ecchi doujin also concentrated on which girl Shinji will end up with, that Mana is a character in as well. She acts as described in that Doujin as well, to which ASuka responds by dislike toward Mana and disaproving of Shinji's relationship with her. (At well as cutely nostalgic late night cry-in-the-bed sessions because she knows she loves Shinji but denies it to herself; Shinji and Asuka are childhood friends, and Asuka is no longer German ;__;
) it's a good read, the art is beautiful and true to the original art style. The artist knows how to draw girls cutely and sexually-appealing without being pornographic, yet some of the fanservice situations are unrealistic and over the top. Finally, if you're a Rei fan, you will see Rei's bare, uncensored chest after a couple volumes. (but not Asuka or Mana)
