>>2115491>I hope we can stop this here. I concur. Perhaps I was reading too into it. Moving back to the Rei Debate...
>Well, I'm not so sure about that you see. How separate are they? Canonically, it's the same "individual" (soul) going through three different bodies.Once again, I'm more akin to view it in the same vein I would an AI, since Rei is effectively a Bioengineered Being, or more accurately, a Biological Artificial Intelligence. If the "Soul", however we wanted to define that, was the only factor that defined what a person was like, then no matter how many different times you copied an AI, they would react the exact same way to the same situation, even years down the road after separating from one another. The stance heavily involves the "Nature vs Nurture" debate, and I'm much more inclined to take a Middle-of-the-road stance in saying it's both of them that influences what makes us who we are. Despite each clone body housing the same Ayanami Soul, the potential for her to turn out differently in each subsequent body, depending on her experiences and choices, is still present.
>I think any work of art, and fictional characters, should be viewed in a way which is most flattering to them. And this is where our views diverge on artistic interpretation. Any detail, even flaws, are what makes a piece unique and possibly more endearing. We often use flaws to distinguish whether a piece is genuine or counterfeit, for example. While you prefer to look from the most flattering viewpoint, I prefer to take the entire piece in, flaws and all. Perhaps I misread the way you meant "Demeaning", but I think all sides of a Character, even those deemed "Flaws" or less-than-flattering, make the character their own, and in many cases, even more endearing.
But I agree, this has gone on long enough. Moving past our disagreement, enjoy some more Rei.
