I alwas wondered about their relationship. When Yui "died", *in theory* Rei I was already created but in the show we never see any interaction Yui-Rei.
It is certainly not to avoid spoilers because it is in the same episode then it is made clear that Rei has Yui's body
There is a nice ester egg on the marriage notification that Gendo gives to Fuyutsuki. There is a draw of a very cute angel (actually a great reference to Rei's natire) rei and it's clearly hand-drawn (by Gendo or Yui?).
I wonder if for Yui as well Rei was just a tool, but considering she rejected her, well it could show for Yui, Rei was not a daughter, but still remains the reference on the marriage invitation. Was it been drawn by Gendo?
