Everyone just thinks "png is too big everything must be jpg!", but images with few distinct colors like this are much better suited for PNG.
Manga scans are the worst offender. They are perfectly grayscale, which PNG easily takes advantage of, while most JPEG encoders almost never do, if it's even possible. And yet, no one ever scans manga in PNG. Even worse, even DIGITAL manga releases are always in JPEG! What the hell?
