>>4150796I was going more for the taboo aspect of it being a deterrent. Shinji and Rei are too passive to initiate things and even if they did, no one who knew of her origins would approve. For some reason, people care a lot about Yui's inherited genetic material even though a drop of angel blood would be enough to make her more genetically distant from Shinji than any other character sans maybe Pen-Pen.
It would've been nice for them to explore this strange mutual attraction between them only to find out that you can't have a stable relationship when neither are unable to share anything about themselves without hurting each other, or awkwardly dropping their spaghetti when they try (and not in the cute way).
