Happy birthday to Helmina Lent! She is a Night Witch in the Karlsland Air Force and commander of NJG3. She appears in the Contrail of Witches manga.
Helmina is based on Helmut Lent, who was Germany's second-best night ace of WWII with 102 kills. He flew over Poland, Norway, and in the Battle of Britain before being transferred to night duty. Among his night kills were around 60 four-engine bombers. Lent was awarded the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds for his efforts.
Lent was shot down and KIA in early October 1944. His remains rest in a military cemetery in Stade.
