This gives her massive advantage over any opponent but I agree, it's gonna be less useful than against bullets and beams that go straight and are released afar.
Regarding the bullet scene, well that's purely for audience reasons. The way it's animated and shown to us so it will have more impact even if Eila could've evaded earlier and not make it seem so close.
But yeah, now I got a craving for fantasy gear related fanart as well.
