Anno's said he wants Rei fans to die, that he doesn't care about Rei, that he forgets her, and that he thinks Japan is weak for liking Rei more, and he's went on to paint Rei negatively ever since he got the financial and legal freedom to do so.
Claiming Anno has nothing against Rei or Rei fans, despite Anno directly claiming otherwise himself, is very much as low as you can get on any grounds, be it moral or intellectual.
