Waifu, huh? Perhaps the Waifu/Husbando is more an object of understanding. After all, you've watched them go through trials, grown from hardships, and respect / love / want the person they've shown themselves to be, or have become, in your real life. They are the type of person you most desire to spend time with. The person you want to hold in your arms at the end of the day. The person who you're willing to spend the rest of your life looking for, if need be.
As Children, we have Imaginary Friends - the people we want to have in our lives. And our parents smile, and nod, and play along.
Maybe the Waifu / Husbando is just an extension of that basic human need to be with someone you understand, and who understands you in kind. Perfectly. Completely. At a level no one else can.
