Too much of it is people come on just to start fights as opposed to being on a website where you can harshly criticize someone without lasting consequences. There definitely is a lot of shitflinging in the more popular boards but I also feel like that's allowed people to dismiss anything they don't like as /pol/ or x/y bad thing. Sometimes a legitimate point is brought up or someone is voicing a real complaint with a post and the opposition will just scream that they're clearly /pol/ shitposting bad opinions on purpose to disrupt a thread.
