I think there is some merit to your idea, though, first, I'm also of the opinion that Rei simply used Kaworu's image, since he is evidently subordinate to or less prominent than her (and we also have to consider the change in the production team's mind to feature him more prominently in EoE being due to reception from his original TV appearance). And I see aspects of both the classical God and both ancient and modern (i.e. post-Comedy) Satan in Rei, her depictions, and her character, and I think this makes sense based on my belief that the Creator is neither wholly good nor evil; though I think Rei is closer to the highest good Lord than to the lower, more evil Demiurgos, but we have to remember her status as mother to mankind, and thus the origin of our experience, which includes suffering (but this invokes the larger question of evil). And of course she is strongly reminiscent of the character of Christ. And certainly I also see the value of her name Lilith in reference to the figure from Judaic myth, even though it is obviously modified.
I'm just starting to watch the new Devilman anime. How do you feel about it relative to the original manga?
