The music player is a MAJOR part of Rebuild and one of the few things to be highlighted in all 3 movies so far.
The fact that Q is interested in the music player which has come to symbolize Shinji's attempt to save Rei in Rebuild 2 tells us that Q isn't just some random new character unrelated to everything we saw before.
