This post is for the person who wanted Rossmann stories.
Rossmann had an injury in his arm that made it difficult for him to maneuver his aircraft in tight situations. Fighters of the time were all manually controlled, and it took considerable physical strength to manhandle the craft to your desired orientation.
As a result of this injury, Rossmann could not wrangle his Me109 in a tight dogfight. Instead he took aim from afar, sniping enemies from the outer tip of the Me109's range. He was an incredible sharpshooter.
He overcame his weakness to remain a useful member of the unit. Krupi, Barkhorn, and Marseille were all famous for diving in and dogfighting at close range. Rossmann was content to circle above and snipe dangerous targets from a distance. He flew overwatch for his more aggressive companions.
I have a Krupi/Ross story coming tomorrow, as promised before.
