I swear by Lilith I remember seeing what had to be EVA on CN when I was young. I'm not talking about the apparent "Mecha Day" where one episode of the series was shown either.
I distinctly remember in the 90's, around the time EVA first came out, occasionally flipping by CN and seeing a lanky purple mech doing stuff with a tree-line in view or other green scenes, like my pic.
Was it one of those dreams where you can't tell it's a dream? Because I'll never forget the images of mechs fighting along the tree-line.
