It was just a recapitulation of completed development, with an odd regression for Hiro's character and his opinion of 002: what happened to him confessing that he wants to be with her more than he wanted to pilot a FranXX in episode 4? The dialogue with Naomi's apparition in his head was so bizarre, since it painted him as either stupidly forgetful, or a liar.
The only relevant part of the episode was the fact that Hiro and 002 are now "officially" dating. The status-quo is the same in every other way.
