I don't care as much for the anime because it made a lot of changes and only covered the earliest part of the story. I have not read the original light novel yet but from what I can tell there is a lot more content there than was shown in the manga.
I will say that this series is very underrated overall and I think it gets ignored because the anime adaptation wasn't well received, and because some dismiss it out of hand because of a couple of scenes that people made a huge deal about.
