>>2216857Yeah, I'm not blaming anyone for being excited, but It's a little disappointing that two films of uneven eye candy later, people were totally blindsided by some sloppy execution. Part of the problem from what I've seen, at least on /a/, is that the people getting really invested in these arguments don't really know how to talk critically about the medium of film. So rather than talking about the visual language of film and breaking down the elements of it it's just a back & forth of people cobbling together terminology and focusing on strict plot progression like that was the primary element of the series (or fuck it, any film). I mean I'm not trying to say I'm some ultimate creative authority but the amount of people really earnestly debating things they barely understand is sad as shit.
Groupthink and people just going with the prevailing winds instead of seriously forming their own opinion is also another big problem that works both ways. This one is just speculation, but I bet the same people would be having similar arguments about the series if we weren't in a time where wikis, infographics and copypasta can give someone a (usually deeply flawed but) working understanding of the series with minimal fuss and actual critical thought required from their part. And now everyone is just kinda groping in the dark, shouting fanwank & plothole at every chance.
shit just lowers the level of the entire conversation and drowns out anyone even trying to say something that isn't comically exaggerated outrage
man that got long-winded, I'm sorry
