>>2752901>Picking up a music player does not a Rei make. Compare with the original, where Rei retains intelligence, capability for understanding and analysis, and also directly starts reflecting on what happened that she can't remember. There is no such thing in Rei Q.Let's review. Rei gets absorbed in an Eva. Shinji rescues her soul. The music player is symbolic in the sequence. Now Rei is back but missing most of her soul. Rei "retains an intuitive knowledge of what has happened" (not my words) and picks up the music player at the end of Rebuild 3.
If we aren't discussing a fictional story then sure anyone can pick up any item they see on the ground. This is a story. There is a reason the music player is in Rei's hands at the end of that movie and it's not because it's actually Yui who wants to hear some cool tunes.
>You are a known Rei-hater. Odds are good there are people here now who weren't even born when I had Rei on my 640x480 computer monitor. For someone so big on proper argumentation you oddly don't seem familiar with the concept of ad hominem.
>>2752903I'm not doing a response to every single sentence. However I'll give one for
>>2752421>I hope her character won't be defined entirely by an identity crisis. It certainly won't be "entirely" an identity crisis but since the entire point of Eva is the concept of identity that will be the main focus just as it will be with Shinji.
As for not knowing if Rei picked up the SDAT, c'mon. This isn't like a live action movie where you might say something happened by accident. Anno told someone to draw Shinji dropping the music player. Anno told someone to draw it at Rei's feet. Anno just showed us Rei thinking for herself minutes before and just then Shinji needing to be told by Asuka what to do when the player drops a direct parallel to Rei needing to be told what to do. These are the kind of things where you hear on a director say on a commentary track "I should have been more subtle about this."
